    Following the horrific massacre of 9 people at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina the flags at the statehouse were ordered to be blown at half mast for 9 days, 1 day for each victim. This applied to the American flag and South Carolina state flag, but not to the Confederate flag that is flown outside the statehouse.
