    According to the MCSO, deputies March 3 began investigating an allegation that Aaron J. Rathblatt, 46, a resident of Outlaw Springs Road in Mendocino, had given two juveniles a controlled substance, specifically lysergic acid diethylamide . Deputies reportedly learned that Rathblott had a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl, both residents of nearby Caspar, in his “care and custody” in late 2016.

    The choices and challenges facing Mendocino Coast District Hospital were the subject of a presentation sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Mendocino Coast at the Caspar Community Center on Tuesday. Hospital Chief Executive Officer Bob Edwards and Mendocino Coast Healthcare District Board President Steve Lund outlined the state of the hospital and associated clinics and outpatient services, as well as future challenges, including how to sustain money-losing but crucial departments like the Emergency Room and Obstetrics; complete capital projects delayed during the hospital's bout with bankruptcy, from which it emerged in 2015; and respond to state requirements to replace all or part of the hospital by 2030.

    The Good Farm Fund, an agricultural grant program sponsored by North Coast Opportunities, awarded $20,000 worth of grants this week to 14 small farms throughout Mendocino County. The grants will fund small infrastructure projects that will allow farmers to increase food production and, hence, revenue and profit, helping them to overcome steep economic obstacles on their way to self-sufficiency, said Caroline Radice, who sits on the program's steering and grant committees.
