    Yesterday at approximately 11:20 PM, Troopers investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on SH-315 in Panola County, 3 miles southwest of the city of Longbranch. Preliminary crash investigation indicates that a 2017 Volvo D13 truck tractor towing a semi-trailer driven by 52-yearold Daniel Richard Gama Jr. of Deer Park, was traveling northeast on SH-315 approaching a gradual left hand curve in the roadway.

    A well-known murder case could once again wind its way through the long halls of the East Texas judicial system as the man sentenced twice is requesting to have his 20-year-old murder indictment set aside. Bernie Tiede is serving a 99-year prison sentence for the 1996 murder of Carthage resident Marjorie Nugent, 81. It is the second sentence handed down to the former mortician from Panola County, and the result of a losing 2016 gamble to have his sentence reduced after accusations of childhood sexual abuse were brought to light.

    Jail records show 36-year-old Joshua Michael Ross, of Carthage, Texas, is free on $10,000 bond after being booked Thursday on a charge of improper relationship between an educator and a student. The Panola County Sheriff's Office says it received a report last month that the Carthage High School coach was involved in a relationship with a 19-year-old.

Bernie Tiede was re-sentenced to 99 years in prison in 2016 for the murder of Marjorie Nugent, who he had become a companion of in the Panola County town of Carthage.

    Around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, Stephen Mullican, 28, of Beckville, attempted to run over two Tatum deputies with a stolen blue pickup truck, according to deputy John DePresca with the Panola County Sheriff's Office. DePresca said Mullican was driving the wrong way on a westbound lane of Highway 149 when Deputy Josh Nagle attempted to stop Mullican.
