    The re-trial of Peter Quinn Elvik on murder charges has been tentatively set for Oct. 10 in Carson District Court. Elvik's 1996 conviction in the shooting death of William Gibson was overturned in federal court because Elvik was 14 at the time of the shooting.

    The supervisors in April heard a three-hour presentation on the $150.59 million tentative budget and $31.48 million capital improvement plan, and directed staff then to make several minor tweaks, including adding a fire inspector and dropping the Arlington Square ice rink from the budget. On May 8, the Nevada Department of Taxation released temporary regulations on recreational pot, allowing existing medical marijuana dispensaries to apply by May 31 to sell recreational products, too, starting July 1. City planning staff is recommending the city prepare its own regulations and a fee schedule that mirrors those for medical marijuana businesses.

    Tears were shed and tensions were high Monday as the defendants in the Grant Watkins murder were sentenced for their involvement in the death of the 18-year-old Carson City man. Reed Skenandore, Jonathan Skenandore, Jacob Huttman, Jesus Garcia-Manriquez, Keenan Blackmore, and Daniel Lease - all between the ages of 19 and 22 when the murder occurred - were sentenced Monday for the 2016 murder.

As the press is considered in every community to be the leader in good morals, I trust, Mr. Editor, that you will rebuke and condemn in the severest of terms the outrageous occurrences of last evening.
