    More than 600 firefighters slowed the progress Tuesday of a massive wildfire in a remote part of northern Nevada that is generating so much heat and smoke that it's now visible from space. A NASA satellite captured infrared imaging of the fire that has burned nearly 700 square miles of mostly sage brush, grasses and rangeland - an area almost half the size of the state of Rhode Island, according to the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center.

Vegetation in western Nevada and eastern California is significantly more then we have seen in previous years partly because of the wet spring and the abundance of last year's grass crop.

    The Nevada Department of Corrections says an inmate was recaptured within minutes of escaping from the Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City early Tuesday morning. NDOC says 27-year-old Gregory Dale Dakota Sky Maine, Jr. broke a window, jumped through it and then ran away, at approximately 5:42 a.m. Officers saw him, and recaptured him at 5:54 a.m. in a nearby neighborhood.
