    The special legislative session is nearly a month away, but Rep. Ron Simmons is ready to file two different versions of what is likely to be the most controversial measure that lawmakers debate: restricting where transgender Texans can use the bathroom. Simmons, a Republican from Carrollton, told The Dallas Morning News he will file one proposal that will mirror a bill he filed that failed during the regular legislative session - an expansive ban on transgender bathroom use - and another that would apply only to public schools.

    Denton police are pursuing charges against the driver of a GMC Yukon that collided head-on with a blue Nissan Versa on Saturday night in the 2800 block of East University Drive, according to department spokesman Bryan Cose. Police believe Izaiah De LaRosa, 19, was intoxicated at the time of the crash, which left 44-year-old Janel Santana and her 22-year-old daughter Rebekah Santana dead. 1 comment

Some patients died of overdoses at the hands of nurses, according to the indictment unsealed Tuesday, which includes charges of health-care fraud and conspiracy to commit health-care fraud.
