    GenX compounds were not detected in 2014 and 2015 testing of drinking water from two aquifers used by the Town of Carolina, officials said Friday. "In December 2014 and May 2015, the Town allowed our water to be tested by the EPA and Eurofins Eaton Analytical, Inc. for monitoring tests looking at 21 different types of chemicals including the family of chemicals related to GenX," town officials said in a release.

    A 60-year-old man on a fishing boat about nine miles southeast of Carolina Beach was medevaced by the Coast Guard early Thursday morning. According to officials, the watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center in Wilmington were notified at about 1:30 a.m. that the man was experiencing severe abdominal pain while aboard the fishing vessel God's Grace .

    One day after New Hanover County Commissioners voted unanimously to allow alcohol sales earlier on Sundays, City Council in Wilmington followed suit. Council members voted 7-0 to allow establishments with ABC permits to sell alcohol at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays, instead of having to wait for Noon.

    Crews were called early Thursday morning to respond to a fire at a Carolina Beach condominium building that was condemned June 30. Firefighters were able to quickly contain a fire at Carolina Surf, which is situated at the corner of Carolina Beach Ave. South and Hamlet Ave., to a trash chute area and just one room was damaged. No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported at the scene.
