    Former Columbiana County Magistrate, Judge Kathleen Bartlett lost her bid for re-election to the Ohio Seventh District Court of Appeals on Tuesday. Judge David D'Apolito of Canfield, in a county-by-county breakdown won in only Mahoning County, but it was enough votes to defeat Bartlett, who carried Columbiana County, as well as Belmont, Carroll, Harrison, Jefferson, Monroe and Noble Counties.

    Green Township trustees approved a three-year fire dispatching contract with the city of Canfield during Tuesday's meeting with a 3-0 vote. Fire Chief Todd Baird said five departments are included in the dispatch center which will charge $42 per call and expects to raise $156,799, the estimated first-year cost for the dispatching in 2019.

    A Salem man charged with reckless operation for hitting a man on a bicycle back in April was fined $250, placed on one year probation and had his driver's license suspended five years in county Municipal Court on Friday. Richard P. Detwiler, 80, South Lincoln Avenue, Salem, was charged following the April 14 incident in Madison Township in which he was eastbound on U.S. 30 and passed another vehicle and then struck John W. Weaver, 64, Strader Road, East Liverpool, who was on a bicycle as Detwiler attempted to merge back into the right lane.
