    At 4:53 p.m., emergency notification went out to police, fire and rescue agencies that a fire had broken out at 6316 State Highway 10. First to arrive on scene were Montgomery County Sheriff's Department Deputy Luke Paine and Canajoharie Police Officer Ed Hernandez, along with members of the Canajoharie Fire Department, one being an immediate neighbor. Resident Robert Shear was found unconscious in a room adjacent to the fire.

    A town resident died Saturday after a late-afternoon fire in which responders found the victim unconscious in his home. Robert Shear, 64, was found by a family member at his 6316 Route 10 home, and Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Luke Paine and Canajoharie Police Department Patrolman Ed Hernandez tended to the victim around 4:52 p.m. until paramedics arrived.
