    Owners Craig and Sara Neuzil will open the doors of PIVO Brewery and Blepta Studios to the public Wednesday, Nov. 22. The two businesses are jointly located in a 10,000 square foot facility that includes an art studio, retail space, taproom, brewery and warehouse at 101 Huber Drive, on the North side of Calmar. The three acres of land includes a young fruit orchard that supplies some of the fruit used in the production of their hard cider.

    City elections will be held throughout the county Tuesday, Nov. 7. Polls will open at 7 a.m. in the city of Decorah and polls will open at noon in the cities of Calmar, Castalia, Fort Atkinson, Jackson Junction, Ossian, Ridgeway and Spillville. All polls close at 8 p.m. Absentee ballots can be cast through the mail or in person at the Winneshiek County Auditor's office during normal business hours Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. 4 p.m. Absentee ballots will be available through Monday, Nov. 6. Mail request forms can be found at winneshiekcounty.org.

    Melissa Foley, 36, Calmar, had to be extricated from her vehicle after she was involved in an Oct. 28 accident at the intersection of County Road B16 and 265th Avenue. According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, Foley was eastbound on B16 when she lost control of her vehicle, which veered into the north ditch where it hit a culvert.

    Construction of the new fitness center being built adjacent to the Calmar Campus is coming right along. At last week's meeting of the Northeast Community College Board of Trustees, Rhonda Seibert, NICC associate director of operations, said the new 4,800-square-foot facility will house fitness equipment to accommodate 50-80 people, and the second floor will house four apartments with a total of nine bedrooms.
