In the complaint , Craig DeVito and four other residents of a Gould Place home, claimed that the Caldwell police department conducted several visits to the home in 2012 to check on the three-year-old son of DeVito's daughter, Daryen, and a Toms River man who requested the police check on his son's welfare.

Emergency crews rushed Maria Tauro, 33, of Caldwell, to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, but she was declared dead on arrival, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and West Caldwell Police Chief Gerard Paris said in a joint statement.
