    A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans an explosives detonation to blast away the below-water portion of two piers on the Old Eggners Ferry Bridge at Kentucky Lake on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 22-23. In recent weeks, the contractor has used industrial-strength jackhammers to chip away the above-water sections of the piers, leaving only the underwater sections to be demolished with explosives.

    The Trigg County Board of Education voted unanimously on Thursday to adopt the compensating tax rate -- which generates the same estimated revenue as tax rates from the 2016 fiscal year -- of 50.6 cents per $100 of assessed property value on real estate and personal property for the 2017 fiscal year. The district also opted to adopt a .2-cent exoneration rate on real estate to allow for the district to recuperate funds on adjusted tax bills which call for a decreased tax liability.
