Butler and State Medical Director Mary DiOrio were in Urbana to announce funding for community health departments and related public entities across the state to help mitigate the spread of mosquito-borne viruses such as Zika, West Nile and La Cross Encephalitis. The plan set forth by Champaign County is particularly significant because it involves governments, including the Champaign County Health Department, City of Urbana, Village of North Lewisburg, Village of Mechanicsburg and village of St. Paris, working together in a great example of collaborative efforts toward mosquito control.

    MANSFIELD, OH The Richland County Foundation awarded $55,158.35 in Teacher Assistance Program grants for the upcoming school year to 55 local teachers for their creative and innovative supplemental programs not covered by school funding. The grants are given to K-12 teachers in public or private Richland County schools to encourage them to develop new programs, projects, or events for their classrooms.

    The Richland County Sheriff's office says someone started throwing packets of "Nerds" candy into the crowd in the swimming pool area at Ohio Dreams Sports Camp in Butler, and 35 to 40 people started overdosing. The candy was tested by the Mansfield Police Crime Lab and found to contain a very high concentration of T-H-C, but no opiates.
