At the end of a Wednesday preliminary hearing, a district judge found sufficient evidence to send the case against Hal Harris, 47, of Bushkill, to county court, where Harris can go to trial, plead guilty or plead no contest.

    An East Stroudsburg man was sentenced to 11 to 23½ months in the Pike County Jail this week in a drug-related case, according to the Pike County District Attorney's Office. Vrej Ozbek, 44, of East Stroudsburg, was also fined $1,000 and had his driver's license suspended for 12 months for the crime of possession with intent to deliver Ketamine, a controlled substance, and criminal conspiracy.

    MILFORD, Pa. - A court has ordered two bail bond companies to forfeit the $125,000 bail they posted for a man who was convicted of murdering someone while out on that bail, Pike County District Attorney Raymond Tonkin announced Wednesday. Tonkin said Justin Culver, now 27, of Bushkill, was free in 2007 on $125,000 bail on two cases - a burglary and an alleged assault - when he and two other men, Marquis Keeys and Cameron Harinarain, now 26 and 25, both of Bushkill, committed a home invasion and murdered Barry Rose of Saw Creek.

    Larry Jerome Nelson, 57, of Bushkill was sentenced by Pike County President Judge Gregory Chelak for possession and dissemination of child pornography, Pike County District Attorney Raymond Tonkin announced Tuesday. Nelson was sentenced to state prison for 3 to 6 years, ordered to pay a fine, submit a DNA sample and register with Megan's Law after being sentenced on four counts of sexual abuse of children and criminal use of a communication facility.

Rohner also serves on the Pike County Public Library Board and was a former president there and also is a Lehman Township Supervisor as well as the Secretary and Treasurer.

    State police at Blooming Grove say a Bushkill man tried to stab another Bushkill man on Sunday afternoon in the American Legion on Milford Road in Lehman Township. State police say that William R. Bruce, 64, tried to stab Mark William Anderson, 52, around 4:50 p.m., while Anderson was sitting at the bar in the Legion.

    A mama bear and her cubs were spotted frolicking around the Pocono Mountain Lake Estates in Bushkill on Thursday, one of the first sure signs that the calendar has swung over to springtime. An unidentified local student, who was on the way home from school, snapped at least two photos of the just-out-of-hibernation family, with one shot appearing to show the mother bear becoming a bit aggressive when a passing vehicle invades the space between her and her young cubs.
