    An advisory for unhealthy air conditions was issued Thursday by the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District for areas near Klamath, Gasquet, Burnt Ranch, Denny and Willow Creek due to smoke from several nearby fires in surrounding national forests. A brush fire that began near Dean Creek near Redway off the northbound side of Highway 101 on Wednesday afternoon was fully contained at 3 acres on Thursday, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Laura Coleman said.

    UPDATE 12:30 p.m.: The St. Johns Area is now under a mandatory evacuation, this includes the area of St. Johns Road to the end of South Fork River Trail starting at about Mile Marker 4. A public meeting will be held at the Hyampom Volunteer Fire Department at 2 p.m. today, and there will be another public meeting on Thursday at the Burnt Ranch School in Burnt Ranch at 4 p.m. According to the U.S. Forest Service, there was increased fire activity throughout the complex of fires last night. Officials said two small spot fires broke out, but have since been contained.
