    Recently I headed to a Burbank shop on Magnolia Blvd. The street was a four-lane road where cars can go rather fast, save for occasional traffic lights. Yet it was a shopping street with a variety of businesses on each side.

    A 27-year-old gang member was sentenced Monday to more than 15 years behind bars for his role in a conspiracy in which three street gangs came together under the control of an imprisoned Mexican Mafia member to run drug sales along the Los Angeles River from Elysian Park to Burbank. Giovanni "Suspect" Olvera, of Atwater Village, pleaded guilty last June to one federal count each of racketeering conspiracy, drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession.

    Signs to help tourists find designated spots for a good "selfie" with the Hollywood Sign and a Hollywood Sign website-with parking and access information-received overwhelming support in a recent Los Feliz Ledger survey, which asked respondents to rate a consultant's recently released recommendations on how to stop the influx of tourism in residential areas near the sign while still providing a good experience for tourists. Sixty-six percent of respondents to the Ledger 's online survey, which was available throughout the month of February, indicated signs directing tourists to a designated sign viewing areas as a preferred recommendation.
