Pat McCrory announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture approved his request for citizens in six more counties, including Brunswick, inundated in October by flooding from Hurricane Matthew, to be eligible to receive Disaster Food and Nutrition Service benefits. "Even though the storm has passed, there are still many people hurting in North Carolina," McCrory said in a news release.

As of 7:45 a.m. Sunday, North Brunswick had 37 people, South Brunswick had 53 people and West Brunswick had 128 people, 12 dogs and three cats.
