    The City of Brunswick finance committee met Tuesday afternoon to discuss the two property tax software firms that were narrowed down during a city planning meeting earlier this month as it moves toward bringing tax collection in-house next year. Aaron Dunham, the city's purchasing agent, will look further into GovCollect, out of Kentucky - which came in with a $17,830 bid with $3,147.50 in recurring fees for property tax billing and collection software - and Tyler Technologies Inc. out of Texas, which proposed a $38,744 package with $15,852 in recurring fees.

That is where police took Kenney Alexander, who allegedly ran out of an Albany Street home's rear door, jumped a fence twice, ran back inside through that same rear door and, finally, sprinted out the front door and into the clutches of an awaiting Brunswick Police Captain.

    The state agency reported Monday that its seaports in Savannah and Brunswick handled 33.4 million tons of total imports and exports in the fiscal year that ended June 30. That's the ports' greatest tonnage ever and an increase of 8.3 percent over the previous year. The Port of Savannah, the fourth-busiest U.S. container port, moved a record 3.85 million container units.
