    After six days on the lam, the wandering Wagyu steer of Waldo county is back home with its herd and is no worse for wear after bolting from the Common Ground Country Fair last week, according to its owner. "My son and I went searching for him [Wednesday] night with flashlights and found him with another herd," Jason Stutheit, owner of the steer and operator of Pond Hill Farms in Brooks, said Thursday morning.

    At least 24 homes that care for people with intellectual disabilities have been forced to close their doors over the last year, which displaced 69 people with disabilities, according to a recent analysis by the Maine Association for Community Service Providers. An additional 12 homes have confirmed with the association that they will be closing within the next six months, displacing about 40 more people with disabilities, for a total of 109.

    Police and emergency personnel have recovered the body of a person who jumped off the Penobscot Narrows Bridge in an apparent suicide, a Waldo County Sheriff's Office emergency dispatcher confirmed early Sunday evening. A Maine State Police dispatcher confirmed that the Maine Marine Patrol was at the scene and a passerby reported that shortly after 4:30 p.m., it appeared that a town truck was preparing to remove from the bridge a vehicle parked off to the side of the travel lane headed toward Bucksport.

    A mother was killed and her 3-year-old son injured in a head-on collision on Route 1A Tuesday, according to state police. Teresa Sirois, 34, of Brooks died after the car she was driving crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle around 4:45 p.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Tuesday night.
