    A former school bus driver convicted of sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl he was babysitting has been sentenced to 14 years in prison, the Putnam County District Attorney's office said Monday in a news release. Michael Cunningham, 68, of Brewster, will also face five years of post-release supervision and will be registered as a sexual offender.

    After more than two months of uncertainty stemming from the Danbury Whalers' lease dispute with the owners of the Danbury Arena, the FHL welcomed Bruce Bennett, a Danbury resident and the owner of the Bruce Bennett Nissan car dealership in Wilton, as the owner of a new FHL team which will call the Danbury Arena home beginning this season. Bennett said in a phone interview Friday evening that he had received his letter of approval from the league Thursday and that he had signed a six-year lease to play at the Danbury Arena.

    Bruce Bennett, owner of the Bruce Bennett Nissan car dealership in Wilton, said Thursday he is leading an effort to bring a new Federal Hockey League team to the Danbury Ice Arena next season. Danbury's future as a minor-league-hockey hotbed has been in limbo since April, when Eagle Ice Sports , which owns the Danbury Arena, declined to renew its lease with the FHL's Danbury Whalers .
