The previous sign at the Jubilee Factory site was unveiled in August, 1988, by representatives from the Chinese Embassy, Chew Chong's descendant Brian Chong, Eltham mayor Tom Abbott, and Alastair Buist, chair of the Taranaki committee of the Historic Places Trust.
