  1. When the Vote for Cleaner Air Was Close, Tom Daly Was There! But He Voted the Wrong Way, and We LostRead the original story w/Photo

Thursday Sep 1 | Orange Juice

Congratulations to Tom Daly! You helped to save the South Coast Air Quality Management District from a Democratic takeover! The donors and Curt Pringle must be very pleased! Surely you remember late last year , when Orange County's mayors voted to replace Miguel Pulido on the South Coast Air Quality Management District with a hand-picked Republican anti-environmentalist Dwight Robinson , flipping the vote from an pro-environment to an anti-environment majority , which promptly fired its longtime and pro-environment Director by a one-vote margin ? Pulido was usually a good vote on the SCAQMD - although I can't argue with people who say that it was usually for the wrong reasons, such as his wanting to be there to pad his salary and his having business cronies who would profit from its decisions.

  2. Democratic Convention: See Monday's Speeches from People Who Should Have Been Chosen Vice-PresidentRead the original story w/Photo

    Jul 26, 2016 | Orange Juice

Yesterday's opening of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia was marked by several significant things happening off of the stage - but onstage it was marked by a remarkable succession of effective speeches by people who had one thing in common: they each would have made better Vice-Presidential selections that Tim Kaine . Embedding seems to have become forbidden overnight, so enjoy these links to speeches from Vice-Presidential candidates from parallel universes, all of whom but the first and last were on the long list considered in our own: For what it's worth, I think that protesting at a Democratic National Convention is fine - for a while.

    Jul 11, 2016 | Orange Juice

Orange Juice Blog begins intensive coverage today of tomorrow's Anaheim City Council vote on whether to give away $550 million of future Anaheim income - $27.5 million for 20 years, and that's before Kris Murray possibly amends it to make it worse - to Disney Corporation and two Chinese corporations to build supposedly four-star luxury hotels that they would apparently build ANYWAY even without the subsidy.

  4. Dave Jones Issues Report Opposing Big Insurance Merger; What Will Bao and Correa Say?Read the original story

    Jun 19, 2016 | Orange Juice

Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, a declared candidate for Attorney General in 2016, has announced his request that the federal government apply an ancient and dormant legal principle called "anti-trust law" for an obscure and mysterious purpose known as "consumer protection." Just kidding about dormant and obscure, etc."

  5. Elections: Choi Just Edged 32 Votes Ahead of Sidhu; Bao's Up; Hammond Falls as Gomez RisesRead the original story w/Photo

    Jun 14, 2016 | Orange Juice

Orange Juice Blog hereby dubs any recount between South County El Pollo Loco baron Sidhu and the Irvine Mayor in AD-68 as: "Buh-BAWK CHOI"! The chatter of the evening - after the new returns came in - is that, in CA-46 , Bao Nguyen has passed ahead of Bob Peterson in the race for a spot in the runoff against Lou Correa , who will be the favorite in the race, but perhaps not the entirely prohibitive favorite against Bao. This was predicted here last week when Friday's results came out; I just didn't expect it to happen so quickly or so strongly.

  7. CHUCHUA2016.TRADE Has Posted Incriminating Photos of Harry SidhuRead the original story

    Jun 2, 2016 | Orange Juice

OK, it's not exactly armed robbery, but it is breaking clearly established rules that other candidates apparently at least try to follow. And now that OC District Attorney Tony Rackauckas has called a press conference over someone omitting the word "former" in a robocall, we figure that THIS ought to be worth at least TWO press conferences! [Disclosure: one or more staff members of OJB are involved with the Chuchua campaign and may be involved in writing for its website.

    May 27, 2016 | Orange Juice

If Senate District 29 looks like a huge reclining child's head, screaming with a mouth the shape of most of Buena Park, well that's what it feels like sometimes too! Another election year is here and the amateur and professional politicos in Orange County can't seem to contain their prognosticating or pontificating. From doom and gloom predictions on a national scale should Trump or Clinton or Sanders be elected, to more nuanced debates about local races, this election cycle is in full swing.

    Apr 28, 2016 | Orange Juice

The battle between the two Republican mediocrities who are spending the most money in AD-68, Anaheim Hill's Harry Sidhu and Irvine's Steven Choi , got even stupider this morning. [Ed. Note: I'm working on the campaign of longtime Republican Brian Chuchua in this same race, so you can take that bias into account.
