    On Jan. 27, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved Braidwood Generating Station's license renewal application, allowing the facility to operate until 2046 for Unit 1 and 2047 for Unit 2. Braidwood Station Site Vice President Marri Marchionda-Palmer said the renewal is great news for the state and regional economy. "In addition to the vast economic impact, it also allows us to continue producing safe, reliable, carbon-free electricity for the state of Illinois for decades to come," Marchionda-Palmer said.

    The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the licenses for the Braidwood Generating Station for an additional 20 years, through 2046 for Unit 1 and 2047 for Unit 2, Exelon Generation announced Wednesday. The plants, which have been operating since July 1987 and May 1988, have an estimated $1.7 billion in annual economic impact, according to a 2014 report of the Nuclear Energy Institute.
