    The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a shooting in Anna Maria after a 911 response by island law enforcement to a possible suicide near the playhouse at the intersection of Gulf Drive and Pine Avenue. A deputy from the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, an officer from Bradenton Beach and a Holmes Beach officer and Chief Bill Tokajer responded at about 7:25 p.m. Dec. 30 to Anna Maria.

Hynds said Dec. 23 he has a few interested parties, including the former Bradenton Beach music venue, the Freckled Fin, but in the event that doesn't come to fruition, he says he'll open a new eatery/bar at 5306 Holmes Blvd., Holmes Beach.

    A supply of cocaine was removed from the streets after a Bradenton Beach police officer made an arrest on the east side of the Cortez Bridge. BBPD arrested Malkijah Underwood, 19, of Bradenton, at 1:17 a.m. Dec. 2 for felony possession of a controlled substance.

    The Center of Anna Maria Island received an unmodified opinion and a clean audit for its 2016-17 fiscal year, which ended June 30. Auditor Eric Troyer from Kerkering, Barberio and Co., Certified Public Accountants, presented an audit review Dec. 13 to the center board of directors. Troyer said 88 percent of the center's 2016-17 expenses were program expenses, while 5 percent went to management and 7 percent went to fundraising.
