    For the second time in less than a month, Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative in Chase City has been targeted by thieves. On Sunday, Jan. 4, officers with the Sheriff's Department responded to MEC's Chase City headquarters at 11633 Highway 92 to investigate a larceny that took place sometime between Jan. 3, at 4 p.m. and Jan. 4. A representative of MEC said that someone entered the property and stole 10 Stihl chain saws, four rolls of copper wire, and a Stihl pole saw.

    A high speed chase near South Hill on Thursday ended with the capture of a Connecticut man, Mark Pejtri, 32. The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Ooffice reported that around 2 p.m. on Dec. 4, Investigator Rusty Callahan was heading eastbound on Highway 58 near Landfill Road when he was passed by Pejtri's vehicle traveling "at a high rate of speed." Callahan activated his warning lights and siren, but Pejtri refused to stop.

Sheriff Bobby Hawkins said that several guns were taken from the home during the burglary.
