    John "Johnny" E. Stake Jr., 18, of West Boylston, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 22. Born in Worcester on Jan. 23, 1996, he lived his formative years in Worcester before moving to West Boylston in 2006. While attending West Boylston Middle School, he played football in the West Boylston Lion's Pop Warner Football program and later in the Shrewsbury Colonials program, which, after winning the state championships, advanced to the Super Bowl in Florida.

    As much as the Berlin-Boylston Regional School Committee wanted a grant aimed at a financial analysis on the possibility of fully regionalizing the Berlin and Boylston schools, the board last week decided to withdraw its application. The grant application had been submitted by the school administration on Oct. 10, despite the fact it had not been signed off by the Berlin Board of Selectmen which, on Oct. 6, voted against supporting the grant.
