    Chemicals used to fight fires on Ellsworth Air Force Base since the 1970s have polluted the water in at least nine nearby wells -- and the Air Force doesn't yet know how widespread the danger is. In 2016 the Environmental Protection Agency established safe levels for two compounds -- PFOS and PFOA -- found in widely used fire fighting foam.

    The woman accused in a fatal accident in Box Elder back in July enters a not guilty plea Tuesday morning in Seventh Circuit Court. 39-year old Sophia Elbow Shield is charged with vehicular homicide, DUI, careless driving, driving under suspension and not having a motorcycle endorsement on her license in the crash that killed 62-year old Brian Minor of Rapid City.

    A sergeant with the Box Elder Police Department saved an opiate overdose victim Tuesday afternoon, according to a release from the department. Sgt. Joshua Campbell administered a dose of Naloxone nasal spray to the 25-year-old man who was found unresponsive in a home on South Ellsworth Road.

    A Box Elder police officer who shot and killed a man May 2 was justified in using lethal force, according to the official shooting report released Wednesday. Jason Wayne Traversie, 44 of Box Elder, was killed by Officer John Cargill during a domestic violence incident at the Valley Village Mobile Home Park on North Ellsworth Road.
