    BONIFAY – A tentative agreement on the disbursement of Local Option Gas Tax funds was expected to be signed when Holmes County Board of County Commissioners met in regular session July 25, but the issue has been postponed until the September 12 meeting. Attorney Jeff Goodman requested the board send the agreement to each of the municipalities involved – Bonifay, Esto, Noma, Ponce de Leon, and Westville - for approval before the board takes final action.

    Dispatchers Fallon Braxton and Kylie Lewis are painting and hiding scores of colorful rocks marked "HCSO" in an effort to bolster school supply donations for Holmes County students. The rocks will be hidden Friday, July 28, with a $100 Visa gift card awarded to whomever has found the most HCSO rocks when the hunt ends at 4 p.m. Monday, July 31. To enter, participants simply need to drop off a school supply donation at either the Holmes County Sheriff's Office or the Holmes County Dispatch Center.

    BONIFAY – A tentative agreement between the county and five municipalities concerning funds from the Local Option Gas Tax has been reached, pending the approval of the Holmes County Board of Commissioners, which is expected to be given when the board meets August 6. The LOGT is a five-cent gas tax on every gallon of motor fuel and special fuel sold in Holmes County with tax proceeds used exclusively for transportation expenditures within the county. The initial interlocal agreement was made 30 years ago with the county receiving 86 percent, Bonifay 10 percent and Esto, Noma, Ponce de Leon and Westville each receiving one percent.

Elizabeth Moore of Anchor CI, Inc. reports the project is coming in almost $19,000 under budget, allowing the city to have thermoplastic striping done on the road and parking areas in front of the courthouse and First United Methodist Church.
