    The Beaufort County Board of Education approved a plan Tuesday to pay for classroom additions at River Ridge Academy and May River High School using the school district's “8 percent funds” for fiscal year 2021. “South Carolina law allows school districts to borrow up to 8 percent of their total assessed property value for school capital projects without going to voters for a referendum,” the district said in a news release.

    A Bluffton High School student made a social media post over the weekend that included a threat to carry out a school shooting, according to the Bluffton Police Department. Beaufort County School District spokesman Jim Foster sent out an email Monday morning saying the situation was “investigated and resolved” over the weekend by the police department.

    With more than a dozen Old Town residents on hand in protest of the move, the town of Bluffton's planning commission recommended approval Wednesday of the conceptual plan for a five-unit, short-term rental “bungalow court” to be called Pop's Place on Wharf Street. Pop's Place applicant Kevin Quat still has licensing processes in front of him, but the commission voted 4-1 to approve the concept design with several conditions.
