    Blowing Rock resident Wilton Norris turned in a time of one hour and sixteen minutes to win the High Country Half Marathon held on Aug. 26. The 13.1-mile race started at Kidd Brewer Stadium and finished in Blowing Rock at Davant Field and saw 237 runners finish the race. Other top finishers include Allison Worsdale, women's overall; Sherri Nemeth, women's grandmaster ; and David Swingle, men's grandmaster.

    Mrs. Elizabeth "Libby" Helms Hoffmire, 59, of Blowing Rock, N.C., passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017, unexpectedly when visiting family in Rowan County, N.C. Libby was born September 22, 1957, in Salisbury, N.C., to Sally Sedberry Helms, of Salisbury, N.C., and the late JP Helms. She was a graduate of Salisbury High School, attended Appalachian State University and graduated from Kings Business College in Charlotte, N.C. Libby worked for GE Corporation in Raleigh, N.C.; the Department of Social Services of Boone, N.C.; served as Clerk for Watauga County Board of Commissioners and as Office Manager for Village Real Estate in Blowing Rock, N.C. She played the flute and piccolo for the Salisbury Symphony.
