    An independent assessment of the Block Island Wind Farm has determined that the wind farm's operation conforms to state regulations. ABS Group, the independent Certified Verification Agent approved by the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council for oversight of the pilot project, issued a Verification Certificate to the CRMC that supports the wind farm's reliable operation.

    We have determined that the only official reporting site that met blizzard criteria was Block Island, RI . The definition of a blizzard is that falling and/or blowing snow reduces visibility to below 1/4 mile along with sustained winds or winds that frequently gust to 35 mph or more, and that these are the predominant reported conditions for three consecutive hours.

    According to the article, the hamlet of Wainscott, in East Hampton, has been chosen by Deepwater as the landing site for the cable that will connect the town to the South Fork Wind Farm, which will be located about 30 miles east of Montauk. The East Hampton Star reported that a Deepwater representative told the East Hampton Town Board that "In order to proceed with applications to a host of agencies for needed permits, Deepwater first must forge an agreement with East Hampton Town to install the line in the public road right of way, and with the East Hampton Town Trustees to lay the line, as it comes in from undersea, beneath the ocean beach at Beach Lane.

    The need for greater communication and dissemination of information between an assortment of entities associated with an offshore wind energy project was one of the lessons learned from Deepwater Wind's construction of the Block Island Wind Farm. That's what was surmised from a discussion among scientists, researchers, and offshore wind energy professionals at the inaugural Southern New England Offshore Wind Science Forum at the University of Rhode Island's Bay Campus, held on Dec. 11 and 12. Lessons learned from Deepwater Wind's construction process, and how they could be applied to benefit the offshore wind industry and its stakeholders, was the central topic at the event.
