    A cancer patient has sued Delta Medix, its Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care and a Delta Medix doctor for negligence, claiming she underwent 26 radiation treatments on an area that was unaffected by the cancer for which she originally sought treatment. The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Lackawanna County, claims Kathleen Astleford of Blakely was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma on her right tonsil and into the soft palate and uvula and sought treatment at the Delta Medix's Center for Cancer Care.

    Almost half the major roads in Scranton and its surrounding municipalities are in poor condition, ranking them sixth worst in the country among mid-sized urban areas, according to a new report by a transportation research group released Thursday. The report by TRIP found 46 percent of the major arteries in and around Scranton, including interstates and other highways, rated poorly, with fewer than 1 in 5 miles of road in good condition.

    A Dickson City man is accused of bouncing checks to buy nearly $10,000 worth of jewelry from stores all over Lackawanna County and then pawning the pieces for dimes on the dollar. Police charged Brian M. Davitt, 39, of 1114 Main St., with theft, receiving stolen property, issuing bad checks and related counts for the alleged buying and selling spree between about June 11 and June 21, according to a criminal complaint filed this week.

Firefighters from Jessup, Olyphant, Dickson City, Blakely and Eynon Fire Departments encountered heavy fire and thick smoke on the second floor of the home of Theresa Ellen Jones and Thomas Phillips, according to state police fire inspector.

    A Blakely man who beat his pregnant girlfriend, even kicking her in the belly, was sentenced to state prison Tuesday in Lackawanna County Court. Standing in shackles and blue prison clothes, 24-year-old Andrew Demkowich got the maximum penalty for his simple assault conviction - 12 to 24 months in state prison - because he was on probation at the time of the incident, Judge Michael Barrasse said.

Patrolman Peter Petrucci saw Mr. Hall yell at a crying woman, Amanda Egnotovich, in the 400 block of Keystone Avenue shortly after midnight and stopped to speak with them.
