    This white car was crushed by falling bricks after strong winds collapsed the front wall of the dilapidated Brown Livery Stable building on Lartigue Street in Blackville Scattered bricks blocked a Blackville street last week after strong winds caused part of a historic, dilapidated building to collapse. A parked car was crushed by the bricks as the front wall of the old Brown's Livery Stable, which is just a shell of what it once was, collapsed Jan. 15. Part of Lartigue Street was blocked for a period of time until town employees removed the bricks.

    A Blackville man was arrested in Barnwell County this month for alleged criminal sexual conduct with a child under the age of 11. Jeremy James Thomas, 32, of 602 Morrow Drive, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, or attempt, and use of vehicle without permission with intent to deprive, according to warrants. According to an incident report provided by the Barnwell County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to a report of a criminal sexual assault at a Barnwell County home on Jan. 1. The complainant told police that she was at the home for New Year's Eve, and when she walked inside, saw Thomas having sexual intercourse with the victim in a bedroom, the report states.

    Approximately 10 firefighters from the Hilda, Friendship and Blackville fire departments responded to the home of Randy and Lynette Batchler on Sandy Meadow Lane in Hilda around 2 p.m. Dec. 16. Flames could be seen shooting through the roof of the left side of the older model mobile home as firefighters arrived on the scene. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the back bedroom area of the home where it originated, said Ray Still, the Hilda Fire Department's assistant chief.
