    The Madison Township Fire Department will expand its service capabilities if voters choose to pass a 5.25-mill fire levy on May 5. Madison Township trustees unanimously agreed to seek the fire levy earlier this year in hopes of constructing a third firehouse at 3232 Noe Bixby Road near Blacklick Estates. An abandoned apartment complex that once stood there was torn down in 2013 as part of the Central Ohio Community Improvement Corp. land bank program; if the levy is approved, the land bank will give the property back to the township at no cost.

    A new Verizon cell phone tower at Asbury Elementary School in the Blacklick Estates neighborhood appears to be off the table unless the company makes an effort to sway residents' opinions. District Treasurer Tony Swartz said at the Oct. 8 school board meeting that, after discussions with the Madison Township trustees and the Franklin County Zoning Commission, it was up to either the school district or Verizon Wireless to reach out to community members to decide whether the plan for the tower should be sent for zoning review.

    Blacklick Estates residents in Madison Township will pay higher water bills following the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio's approval of a rate increase request made late last year by Aqua Ohio. Despite testimony against the rate increase, including a letter signed by all three Madison Township trustees, stating that, "any proposed increase would create a hardship on our residents," the PUCO board approved a rate increase of 9.7 percent.
