Collins held up her 1-year-old daughter, Aubrianah M., to get a view of the gigantic Christmas tree on Public Square on Friday night, watching the child's excitement as the tree was lit following countdown from the crowd. Aubrianah clapped her hands excitedly as she heard the crowd roar when the tree was lit at about 7:45 p.m., marking the end of a holiday parade with more than 35 units that were showcased on the Black River Parkway before entering the square at Mill Street.

    Assemblyman Kenneth D. Blankenbush, R-Black River, will be hosting a “Local Roads Matter” rally at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Town of Watertown Highway Department to call on Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to provide more funding for road and bridge projects. Mr. Blankenbush noted in a release that billions are being spent on downstate projects, including the Tappen Zee Bridge and LaGuardia Airport, while upstate infrastructure is left without adequate finances for maintenance.

    A part of the Black River Valley Club will be knocked down as part of plans to turn the historic Washington Street landmark into the permanent home of the Northern New York Community Foundation and the proposed Philanthropy Center. The community foundation submitted plans to the city's Planning Department that show the back section of the two-story building will be demolished and replaced by a 4,266-square-foot addition, which will be used for a new entrance with an elevator to the third floor.
