On Nov. 18, more than a dozen people from the Oceti Sakowin Standing Rock Youth Runners came to Big Sur to raise awareness about the protest as well as other environmental threats, including water shortages, pollution and fracking.

    According to the Central Coast Incident Management Team, the blaze, which was started by an illegal campfire in Garrapata State Park on the early morning of July 22, has burned 132,127 acres. Fire officials say that despite the fire being fully contained, it is not 100 percent under control as spot fires within the containment lines can start, but the acreage has not grown in several days.
