  1. Flexible OLED array detects blood oxygenRead the original story w/Photo

    Nov 8, 2018 | Electronics Weekly

A flexible sensor developed by University of California Berkeley can map blood oxygen levels over large areas of skin, tissue and organs. It is an array of alternating red and near-infrared organic LEDs and organic photodiodes printed on a flexible material.

  2. New twist on old technique could extract electricity from low-grade heatRead the original story

    Apr 19, 2018 | Electronics Weekly

TEGs make electricity through the Seebeck effect, where different conductive materials in contact develop a potential difference across the contact point. Pyroelectric materials, in contrast, develop a potential across a crystal of one material due to electrons shifting as a consequence of heat-induced crystal lattice changes - the effect was first seen in the mineral tourmaline in the 18th century.

  3. QuickLogic joins RISC-V FoundationRead the original story w/Photo

    Mar 12, 2018 | Electronics Weekly

QuickLogic says there is strong synergy between the company's embedded FPGA initiative, its membership in the GlobalFoundries FDXcelerator Partner Program for 22FDX SoC design, with faster migration to FD-SOI from bulk nodes such as 40nm and 28nm. eFPGA customers using the 22FDX technology will be able to seamlessly integrate FPGA and open source processor technology on the same SoC, says QuickLogic.

  4. ISSCC: In-shoe navigation without GPSRead the original story w/Photo

    Feb 14, 2018 | Electronics Weekly

Revealed at the IEEE's annual International Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco this week was a dead-reckoner for walkers that fits in the heel of a shoe, and accumulates an error of only 5.5m after a 3.1km stroll. It uses three-axis MEMS gyros and accelerometers - which would normally be far too drifty for navigation - enhanced by a shoe bottom-pressure sensor for drift and offset compensation.
