    McMechen Volunteer Fire Department representatives requested funding from the Marshall County Commission to replace a broken air compressor used for filling their volunteers' air tanks. Assistant Chief Jeff Kady and Chief Mark Martin said they had been working for some time to work through the proper channels to replace the compressor, which was rendered nonoperational approximately three months ago due to a leak.

He attended West Liberty for two years and loved to play cards with friends every Tuesday at Coach's.

After a brief executive session Tuesday, commissioners appointed Wade to serve the remainder of former prosecutor Jeff Cramer's term through 2016.

    Utility lines need to be rerouted from a small breezeway area in an alley beneath the remaining structure of St. John Catholic Church in Benwood before crews with Raze International can proceed with demolition of the remaining part of the structure, after a March 30 blaze destroyed the church and rectory. According to American Electric Power spokeswoman Carmen Prati-Miller, AEP is waiting on signed paperwork from officials with the city of Benwood before proceeding with the utility line work.

    When Grand Knight Rocky Malamisyra and other officials with the Bluefield, W.Va., Knights of Columbus Council 1404 heard about 76 students from SS. James and John School in Benwood being displaced after fire destroyed the parish's adjoining church March 30, it didn't take long for the council to raise $1,000 in hopes of returning the children to their original school as soon as possible.
