Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, both owned by Bentonville, Arkansas-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. , accepted donations at cash registers and held in-store fundraising activities over a six-week period to raise more than $42 million for a total of 170 hospitals nationwide.
