    North Bennington residents were taken by surprise when they were told to stop drinking their water because more than 200 private wells were found to have levels of the toxic chemical PFOA. Governor Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont, was in North Bennington to sign the new law which gives the state the authority to take action in finding a more immediate solution to the problem.
