    City backhoe operator Mitchell Smith begins excavating a sinkhole formed by a leak in a drainage culvert under the intersection of East Inez Street and Jones Road during the heavy rain that hit Beeville Friday night. Director of Public Works Albert Bridge said his crew would have to dig out the road base around the culvert, probably use concrete to repair the leak, then backfill and compact the new road base before the damaged street is paved again.
