    The Town of Beech Mountain will consider drilling for groundwater before it moves forward with a water intake project. "At a not too distant date, we're either going to be limited in terms of water capacity, or we're going to find a water supply somewhere," Town Manager Ed Evans said at a town council meeting on July 11. "It's worth the money to do a little bit of exploration and drill a couple wells to see if you can hit some groundwater," Webb said.

The town and the sanctuary's board and Executive Director Leslie Hayhurst have been debating the sanctuary since 2009, when the town enacted an ordinance that prohibited animal exhibits within 200 feet of the lake.
