    After a full day of trial and almost five hours of deliberation, a Greene County jury could not reach a verdict for a Kentucky man who was arrested after allegedly assaulting a peace officer. Because the jury could not agree on a verdict, Judge Stephen Wolaver declared a mistrial, meaning the case is still pending and will be retried at a future date.

Potential volunteers are invited to attend as a guest at one of GCP&T volunteer training sessions from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, Feb. 13, at the Narrows Reserve Nature Center, 2575 Indian Ripple Rd. Participants will learn about assisting with the sugar maple season - tapping a tree, collecting maple sap, leading tours and working within the sugar shack - at the Narrows Reserve Sugar Camp.

    So it was only fitting that former Beavercreek boys basketball coach Larry Holden had a whopper of a ditty when remembering the long-time Beavercreek teacher, scorekeeper and scoreboard operator, who died Jan. 9 at age 84. According to Holden, Koverman was in the hospital years ago after getting robbed and beaten while leaving a pizza restaurant. Holden took his entire team to the hospital to see him and asked "Big Daddy" talk about his adult softball escapades, one game in particular.
