    More than 250 athletes from Hilton Head, Bluffton, Beaufort and Jasper County competed in track and field events at the Region 8 South Carolina Special Olympics Friday at Bluffton High School. Hundreds of volunteers, including more than 100 elementary and high school students, spent the day cheering on the athletes and helping the event go smoothly.

The dollhouse was built by Todd Bradley of Live Oak Builders and detailed by artist Mary Thibault and has been donated to the Historic Beaufort Foundation to be auctioned at its Lafayette Soiree fundraiser on Saturday, April 23. The house will be on display at Thibault gallery through Saturday morning.

    Heather Kerwick's former boss at the Omni Hotel & Resort Hilton Head, general manager Theo Schofield, told us Thursday, April 21, 2016, he's grateful not only for the great employee he says Kerwick was, but also for how helpful she was in helping him and his family get acclimated to the Lowcountry when they arrived from Dallas last February. Kerwick lost her life, at age 25, in a car accident April 20 on May River Road in Greater Bluffton.

    A Beaufort woman identified as the driver of a single-car crash involving an infant that happened Wednesday morning on St. Helena Island remains in critical condition. Jasmine Polite, 22, was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital in serious condition after the sedan she was driving left the roadway on Fripp Island Road around 11 a.m., struck a culvert, went airborne, and struck a tree 14-feet in the air before it came to a rest on its roof on the road.

    A Beaufort man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Wednesday after a jury took only 16 minutes to find him guilty of burglarizing a Shell Point home in 2015. Adrian Jenkins, 34, was found guilty of first-degree burglary following a two-day trial at the Beaufort County Courthouse, according to a 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office news release.

A Beaufort man was shot to death Monday night in Jasper County, and the suspected gunman has turned himself in, according to a news release from the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.
