    Pamlico County has been awarded a $1.2 million grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation to create an educational training pipeline from middle school through college to help create a workforce to fill local and regional jobs in science, technology, engineering and math jobs. Beth Bucksot, the county economic developer, said areas have been identified where present and future businesses in these fields have the potential to grow in Pamlico County.

    The Craven County Sheriff's Office is asking for assistance in locating a California fugitive who is wanted for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Jon Asher Cox, whose last known address is 186 Old Russell Road in Beaufort, is believed to be somewhere in the state.

    The monthly ArtWalk in New Bern on Friday will feature some new exhibits, including two at the host Craven Art Council's Bank of the Arts, 317 Middle St. Artist Sally Anger will be featured in the main gallery and the photographic marvels of Tom McCabe will be on display in the Director's Gallery. Anger, who grew up in Beaufort, said one of the joys of creativity is the chance to experiment and try new things.
