    The Grainger County Elementary Basketball Tournament kicked off in the Washburn High School gym Monday, December 4. In the first game, the fourth-seeded Lady Pirates from Washburn took on the top-seeded Bean Station Lady Buccaneers. In the first quarter, the Lady Bucs received a trey from KatiAnn Dossett, three points from Taylee Rutherford and a basket from Jaycee Susong to take an 8-2 lead.

    On the first day of the Grainger County Elementary Basketball tournament played Monday, December 4 in the Washburn High School gym, the top-seeded Joppa Trojans took on the Washburn Pirates. In the first quarter, the Trojans earned three points from Brizen Solomon and two points each from Robbie Gowan, Brody Wells and Bralynn Sell to take a 9-4 lead over the Pirates.

In the first quarter, the Lady Pirates got three points from Callie Nicley, two from Carley Lawson and one from Megan Beeler to take a 6-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

    A Bean Station woman and her 3-year-old child were killed in a motor vehicle accident in Knoxville, at approximately 2:59 a.m. Wednesday, November 29. Sabrina Mae Brown, 32, was reportedly traveling west on I-40 in a Volkswagen Cabrio and changed lanes, clipping the front of a semi traveling in the same direction. The Cabrio came to rest sitting across the outside lane of I-40 and reportedly then hit by a Ford F-150 pickup truck on the passenger side.
