Oil is now flowing at ConocoPhillips' new CD-5 North Slope production drillsite on the North Slope, the company announced Oct. 26. Peak production is expected to be about 16,000 barrels per day. It is the second new project by ConocoPhillips to begin production in October, following the beginning of oil flow at Drillsite 2S in the Kuparuk field. Comment?

Alaska's political leaders were disappointed but not discouraged when Royal Dutch Shell announced Sept. 27 that it would cease its Arctic offshore oil exploration program in the Chukchi Sea. Comment?
Strong winds and high waves that pounded the northern coast of Alaska have led Royal Dutch Shell PLC to temporarily stop exploratory oil drilling in the Arctic Ocean. "Due to high wind and sea states, we have paused all critical operations in the Chukchi Sea," said spokesman Curtis Smith in an email response to questions. Comment?
