After a group of thunderstorms in the western U.P. on Thursday, July 21, Michigan Department of Natural Resources crews are continuing to clear damage, according to a news release from the DNR. The storms came from Minnesota and arrived in the western U.P. at about 6 a.m., according to the National Weather Service office in Negaunee Township. Comment?
Two state campgrounds are temporarily closed after a storm ripped through the western Upper Peninsula early Thursday, felling trees and downing power lines. Michigan Department of Natural Resources supervisors said Emily Lake State Forest Campground and Twin Lakes State Park, both in Houghton County, are closed. Comment?

With the addition of Baraga, Dickinson, Marquette and Menominee counties to the list, only three of Michigan's 83 counties remain outside an area where it's illegal to remove ash material or hardwood firewood. Fifteen years after Michigan changed its law to make it easier to get a license to carry a concealed weapon, there were 497,016 active licenses on file as of Dec. 1, according to data compiled by the Michigan State Police. Before 2001, Michigan licenses to carry a concealed weapon were issued at the discretion of county gun boards. Comment?
