    The Board of Supervisors formally adopted a development impact fee schedule on Jan. 12. The fee will require developers with projects in unincorporated communities of Riverside County to pay gradually higher fees as part of the county's permitting process. In a 3-1 vote, with Supervisor Kevin Jeffries opposed, the board implemented the DIF schedule with a phase-in period of 24 months, beginning 60 days from the date it was adopted.

After a string of false starts going back to February, the Board of Supervisors held its final public hearing on a new development impact fee -- or DIF -- schedule, which is slated to be formally enacted in January.

    A calf allegedly stolen and stuffed into the backseat of a car was on her way today to a new home, run by an animal rights group that adopted it. According to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services, the now- 3-week-old calf will be pastured on a sanctuary in Acton run by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
