    The Tehachapi Police Department launched its own dispatch center, began taking its own calls from the public and opened its doors to the citizens 24 hours a day beginning Thursday. "It's important to bring this in house, so we can provide even better service to the community," Police Chief Kent Kroeger said as the switch was made at 10:30 a.m. TPD had received its calls for service from Bear Valley Police Department's dispatch center since 2007 and the public could only walk into the TPD station during normal business hours.
